Along with the Aero glass theme , Microsoft has also removed the Windows Classic theme from the latest iteration of Windows. Computer users who have been using Windows 8 for a while must be knowing about the missing Aero and Windows Classic themes.

While majority of Windows users don’t like the Classic theme and prefer to the use the default theme, a small percentage of Windows users prefer to use the Windows Classic theme regardless of system hardware configuration.

Classic Theme for Windows 8

As some of you know, using the Classic theme boosts system performance, especially on low end machines. By switching from the default theme to the Classic, you can give your Windows old look and feel. Another advantage of using Classic theme is boost in battery life.

Windows 8 users who are missing the Windows Classic theme will be glad to know about the availability of the Windows Classic theme. A deviantart user has created the Classic theme for Windows 8. The best thing is that you don’t need to edit or replace original system files to install this Classic theme. Simply follow the given below instructions to install and apply Windows classic theme in Windows 8.

NOTE: You can use this theme file on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 8. Applying the Classic theme will change the Start screen background and tile color to classic view as well.

Step 1: Visit this page and download the zip file.

Step 2: Extract the zip file onto the desktop or any other location to get Classic.theme file.

Step 3: Now move the Classic.theme file to C:\Windows\Resources\Ease of Access Themes folder (here, “C” is your Windows 8 installation drive ).

Step 4: Perform a right-click on desktop, click Personalization to open Personalization window.

Step 5: Here, under High Contrast Themes, you will see the Classic theme along with other high contrast themes. Click on Classic theme to apply it.

Comments

  1. There is no “performance boost” by using this theme. It is purely an entertainment device. They have recolored the theme of windows and that’s all. The window composition engine is still running but just using different colors. So if you like the classic look this theme is for you but be aware, any of the high contrast themes would give the same “boost”.

  2. This is simply wonderful. My eyes just can’t cope with ubiquitous retina-burn white themes. For me, not being able to tweak window background colours is a huge drawback of Windows 8.

This theme is great on the eyes…

  3. Also, be aware that if you choose any of the classic/high-contrast themes, you will NOT be able to change text colors in Office 2013. Windows 8.1 is supposed to fix this, by re-issuing classic themes that will allow you to do this, but we’ll see…

  4. Hi, Contrary to what some have said this is a useful theme as there are a number of specialist programs that will not display correctly on 7 or 8 unless you use windows classic or windows high contrast. OK you can make up your own theme but it’s easier if some one else has done the mucking around. Not sure that it increases performance much but there is an improvement in battery life.

  5. My new high end PC came with Win 8 basic. I found that my 2007 Office Enterprise Outlook indexing won’t work. I’ve re-set/re-started indexing several times, but it quits indexing after shut down and re-start of the PC. I’ve also re-installed Office, to no avail. A friend tells me that he had the same problem, but corrected it with the download of the $39.99 Pro Pac upgrade (until 1/31/13) from Microsoft. Do you concur that it is necessary to install this up grade to have Office 2007 Enterprise work well in Win 8????

  6. Is it possible to change the navigation buttons into Windows Classic visual style?

  7. This is merely HiConWhite customized to be more like Classic. And, it DOES boost performance if your vcard is a wimp in a barrel.
But I simply prefer Classic view to this sux0rious bum Aero (which is still alive and even used for EVERY theme)…
Windows 8 is suckage, and this theme does NOT take that down. It is pointless due to being a HiCon customization, something you can do on your own (I am using this myself, as a sort of half-assed medium)

  8. This is the most pointless thing ever created. Why? Because it’s not really classic theme. It’s just Windows’ theme with the classic colors.

I am not even sure if the classic theme boosted performance in Vista/7 over the default theme with Aero disabled. The biggest performance penalty in those themes came with the blurring effect. Otherwise, the theme does some things right that the classic theme did wrong (e.g., it uses desktop compositing).

But this theme doesn’t change anything in the way windows are rendered. Using this to get a performance boost is a 100% futile effort.

  9. Windows classic theme DOES up performance (I used to use it, too, for performance and as a cool throwback) but Windows 8 will do the same thing. Many don’t know that. If all you’re using windows classic for is to make your computer run faster no need to worry. Windows 8 will do it too! So don’t be afraid to run the real windows 8 theme. I’ve loved it so far. It runs much faster than Vista did on my old laptop. I’m waiting for he release date to update my new laptop.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation – 2017 Toyota Sienna – Curt

Today on our 2017 Toyota Sienna, we’re going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Curt Class III custom fit trailer hitch receiver, part number C13105. So here’s what our hitch looks like fully installed. The cross tube is going to stick out just below the bumper, and it is going to be visible, and it is a class III hitch, so it is going to give us that 2" by 2" opening. Our hitch is going to feature a re-enforced collar, not only giving it added strength, but a nice clean finished look. It’s going to use a standard 5/8 pin and clip they’re not included, but you can pick one up on our website using part number PC3. Now as far as the safety chain loops go, it’s going to be a plate style welded to the bottom of the receiver tube, and as you can see, we’re not going to have any trouble getting most sized hooks on or off. Our hitch is going to feature a 350 pound tongue weight, along with 3500 pounds of gross trailer weight rating.

Now it is designed to be used with weight distribution systems, and that’s going to jump up the tongue weight to 500 pounds, and the trailer weight rating up the 5000 pounds. Now, I just want to mention, you always want to double check your vehicle’s owner’s manual to make sure that your Sienna can handle that amount of weight. Now I’d like to give you a few measurements that’ll help you when deciding for accessories for your new hitch, such as a ball mount, bike rack, or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of the bumper, it’s going to be 6". Now from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, that’s going to be right about 12". Now that we’ve gone over some of the features and details, let’s show you how we get it installed. To begin our installation, we’re going to need to remove the appearance panel underneath our trunk pan here, and we’re going to have five bolts on the very edge towards the back holding it in place.

I’m going to be using a 10 millimeter socket to remove these bolts. Now we’re also going to have a few plastic screw type fasteners that are holding it in place. There’s going to be two in the back, one on each side, and then one towards the back of our vehicle here on each side, so there’s going to be a total of four. We’re going to be using a Philips head screwdriver to remove them. And we’re going to repeat that for the three remaining fasteners. Now we’re going to have some pushpin fasteners that we’re also going to have to remove, as well.

There’s going to be a total of seven of them. One here, here, two in the center, and then a few more on the left side. Now the way we’re going to take these out, is I’m going to take a flat head screwdriver, and we’re going to pop the center section out to release the clip, and then we can take out the rest of the clip. Now, we’re going to repeat that for all the remaining fasteners. Now we’re going to go ahead and set this panel aside for now. The next step is going to be lowering our exhaust.

We don’t want to let it hang down too low, so I’m going to be taking a strap to help support it. Now the easiest way to lower it down, would be to come to our rubber isolators here, and we’re going to have remove the hanger out of the rubber isolator. Now to help me with that, I’m going to take a little bit of penetrating oil, and I’m just going to spray a little bit on there, that’ll help it slide off a little easier. Now we’re going to have this one hanger that’s directly in front of the tailpipe, and then if we go back to the muffler, we’re going to have one that’s also attached the driver’s side of the muffler. Slide the isolator off. That’ll give us plenty of room to get our hitch in place now. On each side of our frame, we’re going to have several black stickers and one rubber plug. Now we’re going to need to remove the stickers, because they’re going to have the factory weld nuts underneath. Now the plug right here can go ahead and stay in place. So I’m just going to take a flat head screwdriver, you can take a utility knife, or anything you have around to help get this sticker off. As you can see, we have a weld nut inside the frame, and that’s going to be our mounting location, so I’m going to go ahead and remove the rest of these stickers, as well as the other side. Now we did have the stickers covering up our weld nuts, so there’s shouldn’t be any debris or any dirt in there, but just in case you didn’t have the stickers, or that they do look a little dirty, I’m going to take a little bit of penetrating oil and I’m going to spray it inside my weld nut. Then I’m going to come back with a nylon brush, and I’m going to clean out all the debris. Now if you need one of these nylon brushes, you can pick one up on our website. Then I’m going to go ahead and repeat that for all the remaining weld nuts. Before we raise our hitch up, I’d like to go over the hardware we’re going to be using. We’re going to have some M12 bolts, and then we’re going to follow that up with a conical tooth washer, and you’re going to want to make sure that the teeth on the washer are facing towards the hitch, and then we’re going to be using the existing weld nuts to secure it down. With an extra set of hands, we’re going to put our hitch in place, and we can start putting our hardware in. Now I’m only going to get one bolt in on each side, that way I can just support the hitch and I can get the rest of my hardware in place. I’m going to come back with a 19 millimeter socket, and I’m going to snug up all my bolts. I’m going to repeat that for the other side, as well. Now I’m going to come back and I’m going to torque all my hardware to the specified amount in the instructions. We’re going to repeat that for all the remaining hardware. We can go ahead and raise our exhaust back up, and finally we can remove the strap. As far as our appearance panel goes, we’re going to have to modify it in order to put it back in place. I drew the section that’s going to need to be cut out, but in our application we’re not going to be cutting it, and we’re just not going to reinstall it. But you do have the option. You’ll just have to cut this out, and there is a diagram in the instructions if you do want to reinstall it. That’ll finish up our look at the Curt Class III custom fit trailer hitch receiver, part number C13105, on our 2017 Toyota Sienna.

Hitch Installation 2006 Toyota Sienna

How I Did It:
I had no plastic bottom splash cover on this van to work around.
The van was not jacked up.. I simply hooked the passenger side of the hitch over the exhaust pipe (to support the hitch).

Using a block of wood on a jack I raised the (center receiver) of the hitch to draw the driver side up into the mounting position.

A 8-in heavy shank Phillips screwdriver and a tapered piece of wood helped to ‘align’ the (3) holes, and loosely set the driver side (bolts with washers), into place.

Moving to the passenger side.. I used a 2nd jack (with a piece of 2x4x6 (on the jack) placed between the body and exhaust to rise the hitch up and away form the tail pipe, and into mounting position.
Alternating between center jack supporting the “receiver”, and passenger side jack (raising the right Hitch side), I kept the hitch level as the hitch was snugged into mounting position.

Again, using the tapered wood and screwdriver as an alinement set, I screwed in 2 of the 3 right side bolts. The third bolt, refused to ‘catch’ and failed to screw into place even though alinement appeared good, and the bold had been tested as screwing into the hole cleanly, prior to raising the hitch….

My solution to this was to use a ‘bolt & nut of the proper size that I had on hand’, identical to the supplied bolts but mine happened to be shorter, but with good threads. I placed a nut on this bolt.

I ground a leading cone shape taper (grinding about 4-threads away to make the taper), on the end of this new “alignment bolt”. I oiled the treads, and then removed the nut to ‘self-clean’ the threads out to it’s new end taper. I did not cut a thread-cutting chip-relief ‘notch’ in this bolt end, as I knew the van threads were good as pretested.
Using this modified bolt I was able to now ‘catch’ the van hole’s lead-thread, and cinch-up this modified aligning bold tightly.

Or,… if you don’t have an extra nut and bolt laying around, you can use one of the supplied hitch bolts, a grinder and a small file to touch-up the lead thread. There is plenty of length on a new Hitch bolt to work with.
(Be sure you have cleaned & pretested all 6 of the Van’s bolt-hole threads with the supplied bolts prior to your install efforts!)

I also found it handy to have another small block of 2×4 to pry the exhaust pipe out of the way of your hand/tools, when using the socket set on the right side bolt holes.

With my modified bolt tight and in place, I then tightened the 2 installed right-side bolts.. remove the ‘modifier aligning bold’ and installed the 3-rd and final hitch bolt with it’s washer.

Time To Tighten All the Bolts Down:
A point about torque on this Hitch/bolt install.
Though the instructions say to use a torque wrench, it seemed rare for anyone in comments/Product Review, to actually mention “using” a torque wrench with their installs.

Since the bolts are to be tightened to almost 80ft/lb this is ALLOT of force.. and even with the torque wrench it seems you will break the bolts, until you hear the wrench’s refreshing STOP ‘click’.

For those just ‘guessing’ as they use a beaker bar, or just grunting the bolts into place, I imagine allot of trailers are being pulled at 60mph+, with essentially loose bolts, or at the least, under-tightened/under torqued hitch bolts.
Hmm, overloaded trailer, over speed pulling, and under tightened bolts…. Sounds like fun!

Seriously, try very hard to get your hands on a proper torque wrench and be surprised at the amount of oomph it takes to properly tighten these bolts.

Anyway, the Hitch? Great bumper-cover hugging design.
Good paint-job and pretty “gold colored” bolt and washer set.
The instructions are clear.

Plastic Problems:
Some who have it installed, have goofed and cut the wrong side for the rear plastic underside splash panel. Just mark BOTH sides of the same lift side, so you don’t get confused, or cut it, installed, and in place, as some have done with a utility-knife or tin snips. (Consider also a soldering-iron tip and steady hand).

Matching It All Together:
I also found that the CURT ball (one with a 2-in body rise) brought my ball-mount (it’s a 1-in rise) and ball combo up to an acceptable (3-in rise), and level, to within 1/2~3/4-in connected to the trailer.

Final Thought:
I’m all for advertizing but not all over the van, so I pulled the stick-on labels off the hitch. It looks cleaner for me. Sorry eTrailer!
If someone asks, I’ll tell e’m I got it from you. 🙂

The takeaway? This is a good company to buy from… Thanks!

2013 Toyota Sienna

Very happy with the hitch and the ease of installation onto my 2013 sienna. I don’t have a lift, but our driveway has a small dropoff at the end, so backing it within a few feet of the end gave me a couple more feet of clearance to work with. Even then, it was pretty cramped and maneuvering the 40lb hitch into place did require some patience. Overall it probably took me closer to 2 hours total, but everything basically went exactly as the instructions and the video showed. I used tin snips instead of a rotary tool to cut the plastic undercoating, and that produced just as nice of an edge. I also needed to get a 10″ extension for my socket wrench (which I think the instructions do say you need) to get at some of the nuts. I didn’t have a torque wrench, so “get a torque wrench and properly retighten all the nuts” is on my “someday” list of things to do.

The mounted hitch doesn’t interfere with anything during normal city driving (my wife hasn’t complained about it on her daily commute getting the kids to and from school)

Mounted a “Thule Apex Swing 4 Bike Hitch Rack” onto it, drove some bikes up to camp and back, everything held up just fine. Even with the rack loaded and swung out to the side, which should put quite a bit of torque on the hitch joint, the hitch never seemed to be under strain.

I have to say that the etrailer videos showing how to mount it basically sold me. Very smart on their part!

Hello Nathan,Your paragraph on the install was just great. What are you towing with your Sienna?I have just started to investigate what I could buy for a trailer to sleep in. All of the in-formation I am starting with is somewhat confusing. My van is an 11 four cylinder Sienna and the tong weight is not up to high for what I want to buy. So interested if you camp. My first wife died and now I started up again at 70 with a new wife who is much younger and we like to travel. Every thing is so expensive that if we bought a trailer, it would be great with two older dogs to 10-8 on the road.Fritz F.

We have sent an email to Nathan about your question. Remember to make sure whatever you pull falls within the capacities of the hitch and vehicle. With the 4 cylinder in particular, you will probably need to look for very light weight setups like a tear drop or pop-up.

Hi Fritz – it sounds like you have quite an adventure ahead of you! Unfortunately, I dont have much advice to offer. We just used the hitch to carry a bike rack – we never used it to tow anything. I did see some folks with minivans towing pop-ups and they seemed to be doing ok, although our New England roads tend to be pretty flat so I dont know how their engines would do on more mountainous terrain. Just do whatever Patrick says, and good luck!

2012 Sienna LE FWD. Watch the 2011 installation video before you start. This 13105 hitch tucks in even prettier than I expected, and now my brother is jealous. Note I made the cutout in the underbody panel narrower, starting 1.75 inches from the hole (see photo), for a closer fit, and there is still room for torque wrench. I also cut a slit out to the front edge, so I could slip it on with the hitch in place, and for better access to my air hoses inside the left fender. I decided to add Airlift after reading reviews, since on trips I carry a maximum load. Installed single-handed, raised on jack stands.

Hi Mike,I was ready to purchase a 2014 Sienna until I found out Toyota would not put a hitch on this vehicle because of low ground clearance. I will be carrying heavy loads and have heard you bottom out on the hitch when going into parking lots etc. At times when the van is fully loaded I will also have a travel trailer attached which adds 400 lbs. to the tongue weight. Even with this hitch it may not be the right van for my needs. Do you have experience that can help me?Can you tell me what type of Airlift assist you put on and if you ever have trouble bottoming out on your hitch. How does the Airlift affect the ride both when heavily loaded and empty?Thank you for your time and have a great Labor Day weekend.

2014 Toyota Sienna

This fit my 2014 Toyota Sienna perfectly. Understand I would never tow 3500 lbs with this van. It does NOT have a rear axle and just isn’t designed for this type of load. Besides, you may know that the formula for calculating these load ratings was changed a few years ago. I think the new, higher, load ratings are misleading. In fairness I am more concerned about any tongue weight than the towing/pulling weight.

That being said, I am going to use a cargo carrier/basket or pull a very small trailer (1100 lbs or less). This hitch receiver just slid right in to my van. It is necessary to cut a hole in the underbody guard (splash shield). The instructions say you need to use a six inch extension on a torque wrench and drop the exhaust for access. I used a 12 inch extension and had no problem running it next to the tailpipe. The passenger side of the receiver fits above the tailpipe. The driver side fits under the splash guard (hence the need to cut a hole).

The instructions indicate 50 minutes for a DIY installation, which was accurate for me, but I took my time and had children distracting me and kept running for tools. My van had stickers covering the welded nuts, so they were very nice and clean, but if you have any dirt built up, it can be challenging to find exactly where the holes are (there are other drain plugs and things under there. both my wife and I tried to take out one of the plugs.)

Another FYI, the instructions point out that you need a 19mm socket for the actual receiver bolts, but you also need a 10mm or a #2 Philips to remove the splash guard and something to pop off the retainers. The guard is very easy to cut through, but I used a reciprocating saw.

Finally, understanding that I won’t be towing much weight, I didn’t picture a very heavy duty receiver, but this item is very well built and I think it far exceeds the towing capacity of the van. Again, based on how well the hitch receiver is installed and how heavy duty it is, the towing weight will not be a problem. The limiting factor is the the tongue weight capacity of the Toyota Sienna.

The hitch appears to be well made and attractive (glossy black paint), although it is fairly well hidden under the bumper. It arrived in less than 1 week (free shipping). The holes lined up perfectly on my 2011 Sienna. The installation instructions and video are accurate. However, if your Sienna has a plastic cover over the luggage well, it will take you much longer than 40 minutes to install. 40min is about right for the hitch alone (as shown in the video).

If you have the plastic cover, it takes about 20 min to get off, including figuring out all the clips and screw locations. Cutting the cover is very easy using a razor utility knife, and the diagram is easy to follow. The difficult part is positioning the plastic cover between the Sienna body and the hitch, while lifting the hitch into place and installing the bolts. It is like rubbing your tummy, patting your head, and hopping on one foot.

After about 10 min of struggling, I decided to rotate the plastic cover 90 deg. The part that normally extends toward passenger side wheel was now pointing straight toward the engine. This stressed the newly cut opening a little, but it gave me room to access the 3 bolts that hold the driver’s side of the hitch to the Sienna frame. Once I had started the bolts on both sides, I fully torqued the bolts on the driver’s side. With the passenger’s side bolts installed about half way, I rotated the plastic cover back into place, and then torqued the passenger side bolts. Note: with the plastic cover in place, the passenger side bolts are accessible, but the driver’s side bolts are hidden.

Overall it took about 2 hours on the floor in my garage because of the complication of the sandwiched plastic cover. It was still worth the effort. My Toyota dealer wanted $800 in install a hitch. Make sure you use a torque wrench! I tighten my bolts with a 3/8” socket wrench, but when I used the torque wrench, I was surprised how much more I needed to tighten them to meet the specified torque.

-The Curt C13105 hitch arrived quickly and fit well. The 2015 Sienna LE AWD has a long DROPPED RIDGE in the plastic underbody guard. The dropped ridge runs parallel to the (round) hitch crossbar nearly it’s entire length.
-The measurements given to trim the driver’s side for the hitch plate were perfect. There was mention of “some models need additional trimming” (and a photo that I did not find useful) – the 2015 Sienna tray needed additional trimming.
-So, I mounted the hitch and let it “pivot” from the front-most bolt on each side (leaving the rear 2 out). A floor jack is handy, as recommended when doing this solo. I used the jack to lift the rack up against the underbody guard and trace where to trim. It was easy to trim just around the receiver tube and gusset plate. The cross-bar traps and “sandwiches” underbody guard nicely if you do not cut out the whole dropped ridge. I chose to do this, and it’s snug and secure with only slight distortion of the guard, and I believe trimming out the whole ridge would leave floppy, unsupported edges. It is important to secure the guard with it’s fasteners first before using the floor jack to “squeeze” the rack up into it’s final location and assembling the final rear bolts.

Oh, and the CURT box makes a great, clean, slightly cushioned surface for laying on if you’re doing this at home in the garage. Much better than a mechanic’s creeper for a task like this.

Also, I took a few minutes to chase the Sienna weld-nuts with a M12x1.25 tap. The bolts were then easy to start by hand.

2004 Toyota Sienna

After I ordered it, I was somewhat worried about the possibility I may have ordered the wrong year. This was because the web based ordering process was slightly cumbersome and did not make it clear in the cart that the product I placed there was definitely for a 2004 Toyota Sienna. However, it arrived the day after I ordered it! Prior reviews are correct that the packing was lacking as the hitch is simply in a cardboard box (with the accessory items taped to the bar). So the paint was scrapped off in a couple small places where the box had been slightly torn. In one spot, there was already rust appearing where the paint had been scraped. But overall, the hitch looked great. Instructions in the box were somewhat lacking, but the etrailer installation videos were spot on and made the process very simple. I had some trouble cleaning the nut holes under the van and wish I had been given one extra bolt. I had to cut a groove in one of the bolts to create a self-tapping bolt because the threads in the nut became fouled. (I did not have a tapping tool to fit the thread–if you do, then I strongly recommend you clean out the nuts with your tapping tool after you clean it with WD-40 and a wire brush.) My trouble would probably only happen 1 in 10,000 times. Hitch fit perfectly on my Sienna. The harness installation was as quick and easy as the video demonstrated. Thank you etrailer for your excellent video installation demos! They made all the difference and made the process mostly enjoyable. The final product looks fantastic on the van. I particulalry like the curve of the bar fitting underneath the bumper–perfect. Well worth the price. I bought it from etrailer and installed it myself at half the price the Toyota dealer wanted for just the part! I never found out how much they wanted for installation. Thank you etrailer.

Hitch is great and the video is a great tool for installing. I’m not mechanical so without the video I would have been stuck. A few items of advice for installers:
1. Make sure you have an extension for your ratchet like the video shows. I didn’t have that and it made it difficult around the exhaust. The video that is on the Curt webside recommends moving the exhaust out of the way for the install. If you don’t have an extended ratchet, that is what I’d do (if you have the tool to do that). We made it work, but I needed to use my wife’s smaller hands to get the bolts started on that side.
2. The instructions says that you don’t need to raise the vehicle. I didn’t raise ours, but in retrospect, I would have raised it up or at least put a jack under it so I could lay on a roller or something. I’m an accountant so manual labor laying on concrete makes me sore – and it gets pretty tight under there 🙂
3. Our van was very dirty underneath so I got a lot of dirt in my eyes when taking off the plastic cover – might be worth wearing some glasses when you do it.
4. my only complaint is that the hitch is a little lower to the ground than I’d like – I think it will be grounding out on some driveways. that really isn’t the hitch’s fault though – it is fitting pretty snug underneath the van, but the van just sits pretty low to start with.
I have a picture of my 5 year old helping me – yes, he is still alive under the van. I didn’t intend to attach that but can’t figure out how to remove 🙂

Shipped extremely fast after ordering. Delivered quickly by UPS. The box was very well stapled together. The box looked like UPS gave it the bottom of the truck treatment but the hitch was perfect condition and all parts included. I installed it myself on a 2014 Toyota Sienna minivan using the included instructions and watching the videos on the site. The installations was identical to the video on the site. I highly recommend using two people to hold the hitch or a jack stand and a floor jack. I did not have those and used a stack of 2×4’s to get the hitch balanced in place. I used the torque wrench to get the bolts tightened to instructions. The video install of the identical vehicle is why I purchased from etrailer. There is a little over 9 inches of clearance from the bottom of the hitch opening. I will be using a 5 bike rack (Draft Master) this summer on vacation with this hitch. Another tip is to wash the under body before working on it as to lessen the dirt around the working area.

The hitch works great for my bicycle rack ATOC DraftMaster on the 2014 Toyota Sienna. Your install video was great. I recommended your site to my sister for their van hitch.

I installed this trailer hitch on my 2018 Toyota Sienna. It is very well-built, and fit perfectly. Customer service was very responsive when I had some questions, and responded right away, both by phone and email. The instructions were very good, but could benefit from additional information regarding cutting the car’s rear trim panel. In addition to the cut that needs to be made for the trailer hitch bolting plate to go through on the driver’s side , it also needs to be cut around the main bar / receiver area. Instead of cutting a big slot for the main bar, I cut out around the receiver plates, and put drain holes in the ends that would otherwise collect water. One shortcut that I found was that I was able to move the exhaust out of the way far enough by just removing the rearmost hanger, rather than removing the two hangers as shown in the video.

This is the second hitch and wiring harness Ive bought from etrailer and I will likely be buying from them again. I had a local hitch company install the last hitch and harness but this time I did it myself. The Curt C13105 class III hitch I bought this time was pretty easy to install on my new Toyota Sienna even if it was much heavier and I didnt have any help. The included written instructions for both the hitch and the Curt C56106 vehicle specific harness seemed to be meant for a pro but installation videos on the etrailer and Curt websites filled in the gaps. When installing on a Sienna, be sure to install the wiring harness before you reattach the trim panel under the rear of vehicle and fully tighten the hitch bolts. It is not necessary to cut a slot in the underbody trim panel nearly as large as the one shown in the instructions. I recommend cutting out only the rib section shown in the instructions – perhaps only 1/2 inch wide and 11 inches long and easily cut and enlarged if necessary with a standard utility knife. The trim panel is easily pushed aside when attaching and torqueing the bolts though the slot you cut. This was a very satisfying project as I know I did a much better job than a professional would have taken the time to do. I spent much longer on the installation than the instructions said it should take but I was especially careful and meticulous. I was able to route the wiring harness from the rear of the Sienna to the battery in the engine compartment by raising only the back of the Sienna on jack stands – be sure to use chocks on the front and back of both front wheels for safety.

Etrailer was excellent in answering my presales questions. The video was great in overviewing the install process. I ordered 2:30pm CDT on a Monday and received the product on Tue afternoon – now that is fast delivery – granted we lived closer to the distribution center within 250 miles.

The installation was like painting. Takes 80% to do the prep work of cleaning the holes and spraying it down with lubricant (like WD40 or rust penetrating oil). The actual install of the hitch was only 20 minutes while it took nearly 45 minutes to clean the holes out. I recommend anti-seize lubricant on the bolts as well. This will also aide in lubricating the bolt for easier tightening.

Curt makes the highest ground clearance hitches. I’m very pleased with the overall quality and install process. It looks great on my Sienna! One tow with renting a Uhaul trailer vs driving their gas-guzzling truck will have paid for this hitch, wiring harness, and ball hitch.

Please remember to do your research on the Sienna for proper towing capacity. Toyota appears to have made 2008+ model optional in towing prep package. Without towing prep, your tow may be only limited to 1200 lbs. Lucky with for me, the Sienna had towing prep that provides up to 3500 lbs. I will look to add an automatic transmission cooler still in the future. 3500 lbs will cover many of my usage scenarios. Good luck!

Well built hitch receiver. Brackets matched frame contour and bolt holes perfectly. Included hardware was exactly what was required, however, I really would have appreciated a thread chaser, even a cheap one to go with the bolts. I would definitely recommend some type of anti-seize on the bolt during install. Installation would have only taken minutes, but dealing with rust/debris in holes complicated things.

Still very happy with the product. I have found that even when driving through deep dips in the road like from parking lots to the highway hitch does not scrape. Ive used the hitch to pull light and heavy load and Ive noticed the same thing with both: the square bore receptacle is slightly too large for the square tube hitch that fits in it. While I dont see this as being a safety issue, it does result in a loud clonk every time you change direction. However, unit MUST be durable as I was towing a loaded trailer and was forced to slam on brakes. If it was ever going to fail, it would have done it then, and it didnt. Again, well built product. Would be perfect with some tweaks.

Thanks for the reply after using this hitch for over a year. To help reduce noise while towing a trailer you can use an anti-rattle device like the Blue Ox # BX88224
Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II – 2" Hitches
$57.95
. This will stabilize the ballmount in the hitch receiver while towing, and reduce the loud clonking noises you are hearing.

2005 Toyota Sienna XLE

Just like the wiring kit I purchased from ETrailer.com, the video instructions were great and the part fit perfectly to my van. I was able to haul alot of stuff from MD to NC and back with no problems. Be prepared to do some prep work if you’ve never had a hitch attached to your van. I have a 2005 Sienna XLE which already has the threaded holes in the frame for the hitch to attach to. I spent more time (several hours) cleaning out the 8 years of dirt, grime, and rust from the threads in the frame than actually installing the hitch. I recommend making sure the bolts run all the way up through the holes before trying to install the hitch. Also, although the hitch is attached as close as possible to the van, you must be careful going over steep driveway entrances or taller speedbumps as I have bottomed out a couple of times since installing the hitch, even without the trailer attached.

William…was there any issues with the wire harness installation….?

We have sent an email to William letting him know about your question. In the meantime, I have added a link to the wiring harness he installed. On that page are links to several videos of this harness being installed on different model year Siennas that you may find helpful.

There were no issues hooking up the wiring. Just some partial disassembly of interior panels to hide the wiring behind and removal and replacement of exterior taillight covers. I took out the rear interior panel but only loosened the side interior panels and worked the wires in behind everything. Basically only needed a screwdriver do do those parts and then found space in the jack compartment to store it all. The wiring kit I bought from etrailer just plugged right into the existing taillight system in the van. See their instructions and video for installation of the wiring harness.

Super Service and great product This is not the first time I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with etrailer. Again, I’ve purchased a 2″ hitch receiver (previously for an RV, this time for a Sienna). I also picked up T-One wire harness for 4-pole lights (1 for the Sienna, another for a Jeep). Packaging is designed to withstand the abuse of UPS kicking the things off the truck. I’m not kidding here. Also, somebody clearly tried to reach in through the “handhold’ in the carton to purloin one of the wire harnesses. Hahahaha, etrailer had you figured out. It was strapped to the hitch receiver bar, most ingeniously. I hope the dude (or dudette) broke a fingernail in the process (grin). Naturallly, the products go on like applying butter to toast when you buy the correct product for your vehicle. If in doubt, just call etrailer. If they are not perfectly 100% sure, they call the factory! Really cool when you have product shipped to a different state and it’s exactly correct when you get there. Well, I once had a shipment direct from the factory that did not have the mounting hardware (just a little oops from the factory, not etrailer’s fault). A call to etrailer, who called the factory, and the next day the hardware showed up. Now THAT’s great service, and is one of the reasons I only deal with etrailer for stuff like this. I don’t bother with local suppliers, because they can’t get it any cheaper or faster than etrailer, and when something goes wrong, etrailer is *days* faster in making it whole again. Thanks etrailer!

This is the second time I have ordered from etrailer.com. I ordered two hitches from them in the spring of 2008. Those worked perfectly. I returned to etrailer because of my favorable experience 5 years ago.
etrailer’s service remains first-rate. Within moments of ordering, I received email confirmation. I received a second email approximately 24 hours later, stating that my order had shipped and identifying tracking information. Three days after that when I could not track my order online, etrailer promptly replied to my email with delivery information. The order I placed just before midnight on a Tuesday was delivered to my driveway the following Monday morning. Packaging was bulletproof. All components (two hitches and two wiring harnesses) were well restrained, padded, and delivered unharmed. A final email was sent the day after to indicate that the shipment should have arrived and asking for me to rate my experience.
Printed installation instructions for the Curt hitch are pretty simple and straightforward. I viewed the installation video at etrailer in advance and consulted it once when installing to make sure I had the measurements correct for cutting the plastic panel once I had removed it from under the car. I own all the correct tools needed to install the hitch. I backed the van up onto my car ramps and then used my jackstands to hold the hitch in place while threading the bolts into place. Did the job alone, took my time, and had it installed right in about an hour and a half. Looks good.

Perfect fit for my Sienna.
Went on in
under 30 minutes with no problems. Did NOT have to disconnect the exhaust hanger. Just slid the hitch up and over and into place.
That did make the job of getting bolts in place a little tougher, but I had no way to unhook the tailpipe. Just had to have a flexible socket head.

Went in easy, same as the other 2 hitches I have bought in the past. Came in right at 9 inches level off the ground, so I had to buy a 6 inch up post to get it level at 15 inches (cargo trailer, 15 in hitch height)

Awesome product as always, and probably $100’s less than the Toyota product.

Working great. Towed my cargo trailer full of furniture back across the country with no problems. Later this summer, I towed my popup trailer back across the country, and back to the NW on vacation. Used it off an on throughout the year as well.3K miles with cargo trailer, and nearly 9K with the popup trailer. Everything works fantastic.

2013 Toyota Sienna

Ordered on a Wednesday, shipped Sunday, arrived Wednesday, so a week to deliver. Not too bad for free shipping of something this large. Appeared to be well packaged, and no damage upon arrival other than a tiny chip in the powder coat on the edge of one of the mounting ears.

I was immediately impressed with the quality and heavy duty nature of the hitch- should certainly withstand anything I’ll tow with my 2013 Sienna.

Install went well, though I took a bit of extra time to measure for the cutout. Being in snow country (MN), I was worried about how much snow/salt may get in there as it’s directly behind the rear left tire, so wanted to minimize the opening. I cut right along the rib which the directions show you to cut out, and ended up with an opening about 1.75″x11″- probably could have gone shorter, but it fit fine and installation was a non-event. Make sure to have a large enough torque wrench to do 80 ft-lbf on the fasteners, and I added anti-sieze as well. Being that the van is only 3 years old, I didn’t even have to clean out the mounting holes.

Still have to hook up wiring, but am leaving that for another day. Overall I’m very satisfied with the purchase.

Love the hitch. Excellent quality. Does the job perfectly. Currently using it for a bicycle rack.

With the hitch in place, I have to be careful when going in and out of my driveway (slightly inclined up toward the garage) to avoid having it scratch on the curb. If there’s too much load (people/cargo) in the rear of the van, it scrapes. Not a complaint about the hitch, per se – the van doesn’t have all that much road clearance even without the hitch. I just have to be careful. Not a big deal.

The installation instructions could have been more helpful.

The first step is: “Remove underbody panel”, but says nothing about how to do that. I realize that each vehicle will be different, but the combination of metal hex-screws, plastic phillips-head screws, and funky plastic-cap supports was initially a head-scratcher. I had to look up how to do it on youtube. Would be good to add some basic info in the instructions on all of the things needed to do to remove the underbody panel.

The second step is “lower exhaust assembly for ease of installation”. I did not find the diagram for removing the rubber isolator to be clear at all. After trying for a few minutes I gave up out of fear that I would break it. I was able to install the hitch without lowering the exhaust. It’s more cumbersome, but hardly impossible.

After that, installation was pretty straightforward.

2013 Toyota Sienna

The finish on the hitch was very good. Only some of the very edges of the plate material used on either side of the hitch showed some steel. As a precautionary measure, I spray painted an additional coat of Rustolium paint. This final coat went on very well over the existing finish.

The hitch fit well. Pay close attention to the video when they take the plastic undercover off. For the Toyota Sienna, there are three distinct types of fasteners. The bolt types are obvious to take off, but the other two are not. One unscrews and the other has a white center part that pops out allowing the remainder of the plastic rivet to come out. Also, the placement of the cut-out slot in the plastic under-panel shown on the video and in the instructions is slightly off for the 2013 Sienna. I think that it should be moved about 1/2 inch toward the driver side of the van to be more in line with the hitch support arm.

One last note, which may be obvious to some, is to realize that once you tighten the hitch in place, there is no room above the hitch to allow you to move the plastic under-panel around for alignment. Therefore, as recommended, leave as much slack in the mounting bolts as possible to give yourself the most room between the hitch and the van to maneuver the plastic cover in place for fastening.

Excellent product, install was easy, took me less then 1 hour. Hitch was packed very well, only 1 small 1 inch scrach was all. As a matter of fact the only reason I didn’t mark the highest raiding was cause it took three days to ship, not arrive, rather leave the warehouse, they also didn’t give me a tracking number until I emailed them requesting one. Good communication but I started each, not them. In the end I’m happy and would purchase from them again. Again, hitch itself was excellent.

2012 Toyota Sienna

I purchased this for my 2012 Toyota Sienna. Instructions from etrailer.com were very good and the product arrived in a couple of days. I did not loosen the exhaust system and just worked around it (make sure the tailpipe is cool). Also, I would recommend chocking the wheels for safety. The clearance was definitely low at the back and sometimes challenging, especially when trying to read the torque wrench. I used wood blocks to support one side of the hitch while I bolted the other in place. I finished in about 2 hours and the hitch looks great and is solidly in place. I tested it with a bike rack and drove it for about 60 miles with no rattling or loosening of the rack.

Etrailer did a wonderful job with their website i.e. viewing products to delivery i.e. status of delivery with mapping. I got the trailer hitch from a UPS delivery truck, wish they’re more gentle with stuff people buy, but it came in an easy to carry box. Instructions and tools are package together inside the opening of the hitch receiver. Installation instructions are easy to follow and tells you exactly what you need. It helps to have a ramp to raise the back of your vehicle higher than the edge of garage. It’s much easier to cut the lopsided of the plastic side for fitting and also to secure the bolts. Do not forget a torque ranch and an extension 9″ or more for the 19mm socket because it will make your life much more easier. I install it all by myself with the help of a floor jacket. As long as you maneuver the jack in the middle, the hitch fits like a glove underneath vehicle right up to the 3 bolt screw holes on either side. Grant my hitch was just a tad tight but a tap with a plastic hammer did the trick. I also find it’s not really necessary to remove the muffler (given you let your vehicle cool off so muffler don’t burn you). I’m very please with the product, delivery, and with Etrailer.

The hitch fit like a glove. I only wish Toyota had left some plugs in the six mounting holes. 8 years of road spray took their toll on the threads. I searched high and low for a tap or a wire brush to clean up the threads and came up empty at Home Depot, Lowes, and three different auto parts stores. Fortunately some anti-rust spray and working one of the bolts in and out of the threads a few times was enough to get all six bolts driven in.

Still good after a year. At some point I noticed that etrailer sells a thread cleaner that I should have added to my cart when I bought the hitch. If your vehicle is more than a few years old, buy the thread brush. That will make bolting the hitch on that much easier.

I have to say I am still amazed at how well this hitch just snugged right up under my Sienna. Honestly, it looks custom made, and in a way it was. I was able to do the vast majority of the install on my own, at the very end I asked my wife to hold back the tailpipe so I could do the final snug down of the bolts on that side. I work slow and I was still done in well under an hour. The hitch itself is very well made and finished. I would recommend this to anyone in the same circumstances without reservation.

Everything was excellent – right down to my call to the customer service agent who explained the differences in the trailer hitches for my Sienna Van. I watched the installation video a few times and then a friend helped me install the hitch with no issues. The only thing I didn’t have was an extension bar for my ratchet set. I had a 3 inch extension, but in order to clear the exhaust pipe on the right side of the van you’ll need a about an 8-10 inch extension bar. The video even shows the mechanic using a longer extension bar so no fault of e-trailer. Total install time was about an hour…great product and no issues.

True bolt on for a 2010 Toyota Sienna.

The only issue I encountered was that the driver side threading was really dirty and needed to be blasted with some PB blaster and wire brush cleaned. But that doesn’t really have to do with the hitch itself. The passenger side must have been cleaner because the exhaust covered up that side a little bit.

Once everything was cleaned, the bolts were torqued to 79 lb/ft and I was good to go.

Thanks!

The installation was straight forward. The hitch fit perfectly. I used a M12 x 1.25 tap to clean out the welded-nut threads, which made treading the bolts very easy. If I don’t include cleaning the welded-nut threads, the job took about 1/2 hour. It took me an additional 20 minutes to prep the welded-nuts (time well spent). I only needed to remove one of the exhaust hangers (the one closest to the rear of the van). That gave me plenty of room to install the hitch.

When I received the hitch, it did have some minor paint damage where the bolts are inserted. The hitch looked like it might have been previously installed. However, the receiver had no evidence that it had ever been used. It’s not a big deal, but when I purchase something as “new” it should be perfect. The damage was simply cosmetic.

I didn’t have the tap needed to clean out the welded-nuts. I had to order that on-line through another vendor. It would have been nice to have that available through etrailer.com as an “install kit”.

Overall I was very happy with the results. The cosmetic damage was the only thing that kept my rating from being an excellent.

2006 Toyota Sienna

This installation of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver C13105 was on a 2006 Toyota Sienna. The fit was perfect. It was not necessary to remove the exhaust hangar to access the passenger-side bolts – I was able to hold the exhaust pipe aside with a block of wood, and use normal socket wrenches w/ extenders. I used a small scissor jack under the receiver to raise it into position, with blocks under both ends to stabilize it. Had this been a new vehicle, the job would have taken about 20 minutes, working alone, no jacks or lift. Since this was a 6-year old vehicle in NJ with salted roads, it took another hour and a half to clean the rusted threads in the weld nuts. A well-worn plumber’s wire brush intended to clean copper fittings before soldering started the job, followed by a lot of WD-40 and back-and-forth with a socket wrench on a 12-1.25 bolt. The unit just clears the bottom of the bumper trim, so it preserves as much ground clearance as possible, given the design of the Sienna.

About delivery – ordered after 9pm on Monday, delivered before noon on Friday. The order was complete (wiring harness, etc.) and in perfect shape.

2006 Toyota Sienna

Very satisfied. Very happy. Hitch shipped in box, arrived with very minor scuffing. Included hardened grade 8.8 metric bolts 12mm dia., 19mm head.

Installing in 2006 Sienna, was more difficult than expected to get the bolts started in the weld-nuts, even though the latter were already clean, then cleaned and lubricated anyway. Some pressure was required to start the bolts, then bolts go in and threads/diameter do match correctly. (Evidenced by removing a bolt and examining the threads.)

Was able to skip moving the exhaust by using a helper to push the exhaust out of the way and using a 10-inch ratchet extension, though this will throw off torque wrench readings some. I have yet to fix one bolt that was so tight it exceeded the torque spec before being fully threaded into the nut, it is that tight. (Need longer wrench.)

Otherwise, no problems. Somewhat better instructions than the other brands. Cosmetically fine–meets wife’s approval. Top of receiver opening was 11″ above pavement–useful if you want to determine the proper ball mount rise or drop to match your trailer.

Good experience with etrailer–recommended.

Just installed the hitch over the weekend on a 2014 Sienna. It was a very straightforward installation, with just one problem- it appears as though one of the weld nuts in the body of the van either had a thread that was cast incorrectly or something, because it took some serious work to get it in. All the other bolts went in with no issues. The instructions for cutting the underbody trim to access the weld nuts was spot on, and removing the exhaust from the hanger wasn’t too bad. I have not used the hitch yet, but it fits good and looks to be solidly constructed.

It was the first time that we had attempted to install a hitch. We reviewed the installation video several times, got an understanding of what needed to happen, and had at it!
Jacking the vehicle up high enough to work under and then stabilizing it so we could work comfortably was important….After that the project unfolded pretty much as the video demonstrated. We did not remove the plastic cover plate, so locating the correct place to cut was a bit of a challenge. But after some discussion of location, we made the incision with a shop knife, and were spot-on. Cleaned and lubed the holes, installed the bolts , tightened the bolts with a torque wrench and great effort. The hitch was on!
We reinstalled the muffler…(unlike the video we only took the system off one hanger and had ample room to work), and then had to quit because breakfast was ready.
The project went as shown and easy enough for a fifth grade teacher, an concrete installer, and an old retired guy to handle, with tools from my shop. No four letter words were uttered during the entire project….
Good job etrailer.com and Curt Trailer Hitch!

2011 Toyota Sienna

I was very pleased with the Curt Hitch. I did not remove the panel under the car. I cut the opening with a good sharp uitility knife with the panel in place. It was easy to measure. I backed up on two car lifts for extra space. The hitch fit the holes perfectly. I placed the hitch on a 4 wheel dolly, shimmed each side until the hitch was lined up and put the bolts in with a long extension. I did this alone.

I used the Curt wiring harness. I discovered it is just the opposite from the Toyota harness in that the extra wiring goes to the left side rather than the right side as the video suggests.
I am using the hitch to carry a Rally cargo carrier with a ramp to carry my electric scooter. I had to add an extension to my hitch so the assembly that holds up the ramp would not hit the tail light on the passenger side when the cargo carrier is in the upright position.

I added a second platform to the cargo carrier and short ramp and the a board to the bumper of the Sienna 2011. I can go up the ramp and into the back of the Sienna so that the scooter can be transported completely inside the car if I choose.

Sorry to say, I’ve wasted my money ordering from ETrailer.com, I just found out if you don’t open the box when you first get the product to verify it’s the right hitch, then you’re stuck with it. In my case I didn’t have the means to install it right away and passed the 5 day contact window, the hard part with hitches is they all look about the same and the issue didn’t become apparent until i was in the act of installing the hitch. So now, not only am i stuck with a useless hitch for a different van which I won’t be able to resell for near what I paid, but my van has a hole in the bottom of it because I was dumb enough to trust that etrailer would actually send me the product I ordered. Needless to say this is the last time I’ll be doing business with them. Anyone out there need a hitch to a Honda Odyssey? I have a Toyota Sienna so I don’t need it, but’s it’s brand new out of box :(, see photo below.

Toyota Sienna

The hardest part of the job was the small amount of ground clearance the Sienna has without jacking it up. If you have drive up ramps to give yourself more room, they are very helpful. Completely removing the underbody panel is not required and it is easier to install the hitch if you only remove enough fasteners to allow the half of the panel on the driver’s side to hang free. This allows extra space between the fuel tank and the hole you need to cut through the cover (so you don’t puncture the fuel tank with a rotary bit). It provides room to easily thread in the bolts. It also means you don’t have to mess with both the panel and the hitch flopping around when lifting the hitch into place.

Cutting the hole in the plastic is super easy. Here’s how I did it. I cut a cardboard template (2.75″ x 12.5″) out of the shipping box and held it up to the underbody panel where the diagram showed. I marked the outline with a permanent marker and then used a utility knife to cut the hole. After that, it was simply a matter of getting the hitch in place and bolting it down.

Fit perfectly and did it by myself in about 40 minutes time and I’m not terribly handy, so anyone can do this. I will say that I’m pretty sore simply from the intricate turning to get the right angles and twisting to get the bolts in place. Not used to using my hand muscles to that kind of level apparently. I’d recommend propping the trailer up on something and then once I got the first bolt in place I used my car jack to keep it snug while I worked the other bolts into place. Only hard part was twisting the bolts in a very small amount of space, but that’s just the nature of the project. The side with the exhaust pipe was the toughest due to limited space. I tested out my Thule hitch with 4 bikes and drove around the neighborhood and everything worked perfectly. Great product and it shipped within a day and was at my house a few days later with easy to follow instructions. Great company and I’d definitely recommend doing it yourself, but do expect to get dirty and you’ll probably be a tad bit sore if you don’t do these kinds of projects for a living.

If you need a hitch, you NEED etrailer !
I ordered my second hitch from them for my 2014 Toyota Sienna and just as promised the price was a great deal, all parts were right, and the instructions were very well written ! I also installed the “Tee” wiring that fit like a glove! I use my hitch to tow a small utility trailer, a 2 place jet ski trailer, and a small camper so we will use it a lot! I would suggest having 2 people or a floor jack covered with a towel (so as to not scratch the hitch) to hold the hitch up when starting the mounting bolts!
I have not taken any pictures yet but plan to when I can and will send them in.
Thanks etrailer.com for awesome customer support both by email and over the phone!!!

Kevin H No I have not had any problems with the hitch dragging other that if I am in a VERY deep dip like at the end of a steep driveway, and that has only occurred twice since installing this hitch!

Quality is good, and installation is straightforward. My complaint is that this hitch sits pretty low. I think all of the hitches for the Sienna sit low. In fact, Toyota does not sell a hitch for the Sienna, and from reading online, it seems that the reason is because it was too low and they received a lot of complaints about it. The issue is that the Sienna has an aerodynamic plastic cover down there, and the hitch sits below that. It would be *much* better if the hitch were higher, and the directions called for cutting out a section of that wind deflector to make the hitch fit (there’s room to move the hitch up a couple inches before interfering with the bumper). With no load, the hitch rarely drags on driveway approaches and speed bumps, but it makes an awful sound when it does drag. Because the suspension on the Sienna is soft, under a load the hitch is very low. I think that for many applications, it is necessary to install airbags inside the rear suspension to prevent the hitch from riding to low.

The hitch was delivered in two days, (earlier than I expected). The only thing that I might suggest is a double wall box for shipping. the box as pretty rough when it arrived. The hitch itself was in good condition and the instillation was 40 minutes( by my self) just like the video said it would be. The holes all lined up the way they were supposed to and the install went flawlessly. Certainly I would not hesitate to buy another one if I needed one. I wish everything was this simple.

Took me and my 15 year old son about 30 minutes to attach the 2″ Curt hitch. I did not reattach and cut the bottom plastic cover on our 2015 Sienna XLE. I left it off during our trip and when we returned I removed the hitch all together and put the cover back on. I will reinstall the hitch for our next trip. My driveway is steep and bottomed out every time pulling in and out. The bottom of the hitch was 7″ off the ground as you will see in the attached photo.

I did have to spread open the hitch about 3/4″ to install. I used a floor jack and a 2×4 which made this a quick and painless. I did not take a picture of this part. Just stand the hitch on end and put the floor jack inside with the 2×4 on top standing up. a few pumps of the handle did the trick for me. I’m sure any jack will work.

Installed with myself and 4 jack stands — 2 to hold the rear end up, 2 to hold the hitch up — in about an hour and a half (I had to find the lifting point on my Sienna first). There was some grunting to get the hitch in place. If you have a friend and know where the lifting point is you could probably get it done in 45 minutes or less. If you have a car lift and a friend it would take maybe 15 or 20 minutes.

The hitch looks as expected from the photos, and the video was a great help. I was worried about bottoming out, but haven’t yet (I live near Chicago, so there aren’t a lot of uneven surfaces around). My uncle who lives in Denver, CO has a 2006 sienna and bottomed out all the time before he had airbags installed. This may not be as big of an issue on the newer generation.

Overall good hitch. I was considering the one by torklift central for aesthetics and possibly more clearance, but went with this one because it was so much cheaper. So far I haven’t regretted it.

Fit like a glove. Product was exactly as described, and was installed without even the smallest issue. Thanks to the install video, I knew exactly what needed to be done. I had all tools ready and waiting. I had a small audience as I installed it, so I was glad it was quick and painless. Best part was, it was Made in the USA.

Bottomed it out HARD on a local speed bump several times, and it is solid as a rock. After one year, I have no complaints about anything whatsoever.

2014 Toyota Sienna

Searched internet for hitch for a bike rack for 2014 Toyota Sienna Van. Found etrailer and Item C13105. I viewed the video for installation and placed my order. It arrived in 3-days. For installation it recommends removing the tailpipe holder on the pass. side, I’m a 70 year old man and did not have to remove the hanger. I backed my van onto 2 pcs of 2×6’s (each rear tire) placed a cardboard box about the height of a (sorry beer case) in the center of width, placed the hitch bar on the box and after cutting out the right side to allow access to the bolt holes, was able to catch a bolt on each side. Then continued to secure the other bolts as req. I had discussed w/my garage to do the installation, but it took less than an hour as described above. The rubber hanger is spongy enough to push it out of way and secure the bolts. I am totally satisfied with my purchase of the Curt trailer hitch and the quick and simple ordering and delivery by etrailer.

2015 Toyota Sienna

I recently installed the CURT C13105 hitch on my 2015 Sienna. I wanted to save money by doing it myself and the directions and other reviews made it sound easy. It was actually easier than I thought it would be. The hardest part was getting the van up in the air. I had trouble getting the van up on ramps because they kept sliding on the garage floor so I had to use a friend lift in his garage. We had the hitch totally installed in under 1 hour. I’ll admit that I did screw up and trimmed the wrong side of that panel that you need to remove and trim. I had it upside down from the instructions because it was tough to tell from the picture. Still no big deal. When I got a hitch put on my 2011 Sienna, the shop that did it just removed the panel and through it in the back of the van, and they charged me a fortune for the hitch and wiring. So to wrap it up, great product at a great price, and I would definitely by from etrailer again.

No issue encountered with this install. I just followed directions, cut the protective panel as indicated (and yes, it is larger than needed) and placed the hitch. I used my floor jack to install the hitch by counter weighting through the receiver and my daughter raised it while I lined the bolts. Could be done by one person, but quicker and more fun with 2.

2012 Toyota Sienna

I am very pleased with Etrailer.com service, shipping, and especially their helpful videos. I had one bolt that I had trouble with due to some minor thread damage, but one call to Customer Service, and a replacement was on the way. The Kurt hitch fits nicely up under the rear bumper and I especially like that I could reinstall the the plastic appearance panel on my 2012 Sienna.
As mentioned in the videos, check to make sure each bolt will easily screw all the way into the weld nuts before you start to install the hitch. I had a couple on weld nuts that needed work to clean out, even on a new van. Also read the other reviews before you start for useful hints. I installed by myself using a floor jack to raise the hitch up into place as another reviewer suggested, and the hitch slid right up into position for bolting. Also, I did not need to undo the exhaust hanger, just moved it out of the way a little to get clearance.

  • Is There a Minimum Hitch Receiver-to-Ground Height Clearance Requirement for Trailer Hitches
  • I am not aware of any legally mandated minimum ground clearance requirement for trailer hitch receivers in any states and my online research did not reveal any such laws. However, I did find on an internet forum for Sienna owners posts related to your exact concern: too little hitch receiver-to-ground clearance. This vehicle simply sits quite low to the ground.

i ordered this hitch online from ecustomhitch.com , i also looked at my local u haul dealer before buying. the curt hitch was cheaper, and a lot nicer than the u haul hitch. first, the finish was better on the curt. thick glossy black powder, verses a flat black paint on the u haul hitch. secondly, the curt hitch is fully welded, all seams and tubes welded up tight with nice thick uniform welding. looks awesome! 3rd, installation was super easy, perfect fit! thanks!

Guardianship Service for International Students

Guardianship News

Life at a UK boarding school, an article by Henry Cope

Henry Cope has been working at Bright World Guardianships during his summer holiday break.

Henry is a boarding pupil at Tonbridge, one of the UK’s top schools and a school where Bright World offers guardianship to international students. We are very fortunate that Henry has taken the time to write some words about what life is really like at boarding school.  Read on for advice from someone who has first hand knowledge.

Tonbridge School, Kent

GETTING STARTED

Box Hill School Sixth Form, Surrey

When you arrive at boarding school, it can seem very daunting and very unnerving, however, this feeling is very common amongst all new pupils and is nothing out of the ordinary.

It will take a couple of weeks to settle in completely and learn where all of your lessons are. Furthermore, it is very important not to ‘sit in the corner’ and wait for others to come and meet you as making friends will help you to settle in. During your first few weeks you maybe allocated a buddy within your house. A buddy is a name for a girl/boy older pupil who is in charge of showing you round the house and also helping you to understand your timetable and any other queries which you may have.  This buddy at school is not to be confused with a Bright World Buddy which is the  name we use for our Local Coordinators at Bright World Guardianships.

THE DAILY ROUTINE

Most boarding schools run from 8am-6pm. Within this time you will probably attend lessons combined with free time and a chance to embark on new activities.

Some days during the week your lessons may end at 4pm this gives you a couple of hours before supper to play sport and attend other activities as well as do any unfinished work. After supper there will be a period of about 2 hour’s known as ‘prep’ here you will be encouraged to do your homework and any other work. This is recommended as the best time to work as it reduces the amount of work that you have to do late at night or early in the morning.

HOUSES AND DORMS

Whether you are an international student or a local resident to the area, boarding will be the same for everyone. It is important that you know your way round the house and recognise the important staff and pupils who are there to help you.

In addition it is helpful to make your dorm feel as homely as possible; this can be done by pinning up posters around the wall or maybe just your favourite pillow. When it comes to your ‘roomie’ (room mate), make sure you make an effort to get to know them as well as possible as it will help to make your time more enjoyable. Furthermore, try and arrive on your first day in good time as to ensure you get the best bed and other areas of importance!!

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Coming over as an international student can be very tough to start with. However, you’ll soon settle in and make new friends.

Try to arrive early and familiarise yourself with the school and the surrounding area as it will help to make the school less daunting. Furthermore, try to broaden your knowledge by exploring different cultures and also try to speak the language as your English will rapidly improve. In addition try to mingle with everyone not just those from your country as you are spending the majority of your boarding school life with those around you.

Your guardian in the UK should come and visit you in the first few days of term to make sure you are settling in well.  At my school I know that several of the overseas boys are looked after by Bright World Guardianships who visit them, attend parents evenings and also find good local host families for them during the half term breaks when they do not go back home like the UK boys do.   Your guardian is there to help and guide you so make sure you take the time to get to know them and ask them if you have any questions.

We thank Henry for his words of advice.  More from Henry soon on Sports, Activities and pastoral care and welfare.

Farrell scores 37 as Notre Dame beats Boston College, 84-67

  • STATS AP
  • Feb 17, 2018

BOSTON (AP) Matt Farrell once dreamed of playing basketball for the Eagles.

The 6-foot-1 guard had committed to Boston College as a senior at Point Pleasant Beach High in New Jersey, but his plans changed when the school fired Steve Donahue as its basketball coach in 2014. Farrell instead wound up at Notre Dame .

On Saturday, he gave the Eagles a taste of what they’ve been missing, scoring 26 of his career-high 37 points in the opening half and making a school-record 10 3-pointers with seven assists to help Notre Dame beat Boston College 84-67.

”I really liked (Donahue) and unfortunately (he) got fired,” Farrell said. ”After that, I opened up my recruitment and ended up here, and I can’t complain.”

Farrell, in just the first half, nearly matched his previous career high of 28 points set against Florida State last Saturday. He made all eight of his first-half 3s and finished 10 for 23, eclipsing his old high of six made 3s against the Seminoles.

”It’s one of the great performances in a Notre Dame uniform,” Fighting Irish coach Mike Brey said.

TJ Gibbs finished with 15 points and Martinas Geben added 12 as Notre Dame (16-11, 6-8 Atlantic Coast Conference) won for the third time in four games.

Jerome Robinson scored 29, Nik Popovic had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Ky Bowman added 13 points to lead Boston College (16-11, 6-8). The Eagles’ last win against the Fighting Irish came on Feb. 4, 2004, when both teams were members of the Big East.

”We’ve got to grow from it. Nobody feels sorry for you in this league,” Eagles coach Jim Christian said.

Notre Dame leading scorer Bonzie Colson missed his 13th straight game with a left foot injury.

Farrell hit seven threes and had 20 points during a 31-14 Notre Dame surge that put the visitors up by 20 with six minutes left in the first half. Notre Dame was up 46-30 at halftime and led by as many as 26 early in the second.

Boston College got the lead down to nine after that, but came no closer.

”There was no giving up for our team,” Robinson said. ”So we were definitely going to battle back, and we’ve battled back before, so it was the same story.”

BIG PICTURE

Notre Dame: With Colson sidelined, wins have been elusive for a Fighting Irish team that had lost eight of 10 coming in. But the Fighting Irish are in good position to finish strong after their recent hot streak. ”We’re fighting and scratching and trying to stay alive in this thing,” Brey said.

Boston College: The Eagles’ hopes of an at-large NCAA Tournament bid took a hit after having won three of four, and now they’ll play three of their last four away from home. ”We know the road’s going to be tough, but we know we can be right back in the hunt if we get some road wins,” Robinson said.

FOR BONZIE

Colson is a native of nearby New Bedford, Mass. and his father was an assistant at Boston College. His injury kept him sidelined for his final college game in his home state, but his teammates helped make it memorable.

”Bonzie Colson loves playing here, so we really wanted to get this one for him,” Farrell said.

MR. 46

Robinson scored a career-high 46 points on 15-of-23 shooting in his last game against Notre Dame on Feb. 6, which was tied for the second highest single-game point total in school history. On Saturday, the Raleigh, N.C. native had 17 fewer points on 11-of-15 shooting.

”I don’t know how he got off Tobacco Road, but BC did a heck of a job getting him up here,” Brey said.

UP NEXT

Notre Dame: Hosts Miami on Monday before playing two out of their final three regular-season games away from Edmund P. Joyce Center.

Boston College: The Eagles hope to salvage their season Tuesday at N.C. State.
