PHP money_format() Function

❮ PHP String Reference

Example

International en_US format:

<?php
$number = 1234.56;
setlocale(LC_MONETARY,"en_US");
echo money_format("The price is %i", $number);
?>

The output of the code above will be:

The price is USD 1,234.56

Definition and Usage

The money_format() function returns a string formatted as a currency string.

This function inserts a formatted number where there is a percent (%)
sign in the main string.

Note: The money_format() function does not work on Windows platforms.

Tip: This function is often used together with the
setlocale() function.

Tip: To view all available language codes, go to our Language code reference.

Syntax

money_format(string,number)

ParameterDescription
stringRequired. Specifies the string to be formatted and how to format the variables in it.

Possible format values:

Padding and Flags:

  • =f – Specifies the character (f) to be used as padding (Example: %=t this uses "t" as padding). Default is space
  • ^ – Removes the use of grouping characters
  • + or ( – Specifies how to show positive and negative numbers. If "+" is used, the local setting for + and – will be used (usually a sign in front of negative numbers, and nothing in front of positive numbers). If "(" is used, negative numbers are enclosed in parenthesis. Default is "+"
  • ! – Stops the use of currency symbols in the output string
  • – If "-" is used, all fields are left-justified. Default is right-justified

Field width:

  • x – Specifies the minimum field width (x). Default is 0
  • #x – Specifies the maximum number (x) of digits expected to the left of the decimal point. This is used to keep formatted output aligned in the same columns. If the number of digits are bigger than x, this specification is ignored
  • .x – Specifies the maximum number (x) of digits expected to the right of the decimal point. If x is 0, the decimal point and the digits to its right will not be shown. Default is local settings

Conversion characters:

  • i – The number is formatted to international currency format
  • n – The number is formatted to national currency format
  • % – Returns the % character

Note: If multiple format values are used, they must be in the same order as shown above.

Note: This function is affected by local settings.

numberRequired. The number to be inserted at the %-sign in the format string

Technical Details

Return Value:Returns the formatted string. Characters before and after the formatting string will be returned unchanged. Non-numeric number causes returning NULL and emitting E_WARNING
PHP Version:4.3.0+

More Examples

Example 1

International format (Germany) with 2 decimals:

<?php
$number = 1234.56;
setlocale(LC_MONETARY,"de_DE");
echo money_format("%.2n", $number);
?>

The output of the code above will be:

1 234,56 EUR

Formatting a number as currency using CSS

Just wondering if anyone knows whether it is possible to format the content of an element as currency using only CSS. It would be nice to have how the value is presented in CSS if possible, can’t find anything though so I’m not holding my breath 🙂

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head> <style type="text/css"> .dollars:before content:'$'; </style>
</head>
<body> Pure CSS: <span >25153.3</span> <br /> Ideal format: <span>$25,153.30</span>
</body>
</html>

That example comes out as:

Pure CSS: $25153.3

Ideal format: $25,153.30

Also I’m aware that it’s fairly trivial using javascript – http://css-tricks.com/snippets/javascript/format-currency/ .

The currency format can be achieved with CSS and a bit of Javascript which is needed for the parsing of the number to add the commas. A CSS class adds the additional styling like negative (red) or currency sign (i.e. $ Dollar sign). The approach is a follows:

1) Convert the value to number (adds the commas based on the locale)

Number(value).toLocaleString('en');

2) Add a class to determine if it is negative or positive value (i.e. red color)

.enMoney::before content:"$";
.negMoney color:red;

See more detail here with the sample code and css:

If you’re asking about number formatting in CSS (that is, parsing a number from a string and then formatting it with thousands separator, decimal separator, fixed decimal digits number etc), then no, it is impossible in CSS, and this is not what CSS was designed for.

If you want to do any formatting, then you’d better to use XSLT. For example:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"> <xsl:template match="span[@class='dollars']"> <span> <xsl:text>$</xsl:text> <xsl:value-of select="format-number(current(), '###,###.00')"/> </span> </xsl:template> <xsl:template match="@* | node()"> <xsl:copy> <xsl:apply-templates select="@* | node()"/> </xsl:copy> </xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>

    "and this is not what CSS was designed for"… I would reserve judgement about what CSS was designed for. Pushing common functionality into the browser is exactly what technologies like CSS were designed for. There was a time when "responding to screen sizes" was "not something CSS was designed for" Also: wiki.csswg.org/ideas/content-formatting

    aha – so that’s what XSLT was designed for 😉

    "Formatting a number" is a function of presentation, and that’s exactly what CSS was designed for.

Well, this doesn’t fit your own use case unfortunately, and it’s fairly obvious, but you could do this for integer numbers from -999 to 999.

.currency:before content:'$';
.currency:after content: '.00';
<span >789</span>

Then, a possible, annoying, solution if you’re working server side, is to convert your number to a reversed string and loop over each character. If you really wanted you could place the characters into li’s and css could then do the formatting you wanted as follows. However this is incredibly pointless as you may as well simply author the string at that point.

.currency li:before content: ' ,';
.currency li:first-child:before content:'$' !important;
.currency * display: inline-block;
.currency, .currency > * display: inline-block;
.currency:after content: '.00';
<ul ><li>123</li><li>456</li><li>789</li></ul>
<ul ><li>456</li><li>789</li></ul>
<ul ><li>789</li></ul>

For an even deeper dive into pointless effort, you could prepend a

<style> .currency:after content: '.00'; </style>

above the <ul>, allowing your script to change the decimal value in CSS, lol

Still, if you were to cave and use JavaScript, then the CSS may actually be somewhat useful. You can output a plain int or double (any precision) and just have JS break it into <li>s.

I have seen a blog which claims that we can develop iPhone applications in HTML5. Untill then I was aware about Objective-C on Mac.

Can we develop an interface with backend support application in HTML5 on iPhone? Will it be secure and scalable?

If HTML5 is a markup language, then how can I make conditional statements in it? Would it be via jQuery or Javascript?

Which IDE should I use to develop an iPhone app in HTML5?

A great place to start when developing an iPhone app in HTML5 is PhoneGap .

You could either go the full-blown app route by developing an iOS app using PhoneGap , or only selecting certain tools/frameworks to help build a web-based app for mobile devices.

And very much like how it works with websites, HTML is used for the structure, CSS for presentation and JavaScript for behaviour. So yes, JS is used for conditional statements, etc.

Yes.

You can develop an HTML5/CSS3/Javascript app, then wrap it in PhoneGap or Apache Cordova to make it native and put it in the App Store (or Android Market…), as well as publish it on the web. You can do this with whatever tools you’re comfortable with.

Using a tool like PhoneGap has many benefits over browser-based Mobile Web Apps, such as allowing you to parse iPhone contacts and access the local hardware.

It’s great in combination with jQuery Mobile , but since performance is a MAJOR issue you must be very cautious to really streamline your images, CSS, and Javascript.

I have seen a blog which claims that we can develop iPhone applications in HTML5. Untill then I was aware about Objective-C on Mac.

If you want to write a native iPhone application, then Objective-C is your only option. However, as the iPhone’s web browser has a lot of capabilities (e.g. offline caching), you can develop applications that run in its web browser, as opposed to natively. They can’t access all the features of the iPhone, and they are simply websites (so you need a server to serve them), but before the iPhone SDK was released, Steve Jobs himself described web apps as the way to write software for the iPhone .

Can we develop an interface with backend support application in HTML5 on iPhone? Will it be secure and scalable?

I have no idea what that means.

If HTML5 is a markup language, then how can I make conditional statements in it? Would it be via jQuery or Javascript?

Correct: JavaScript. (jQuery is just a JavaScript framework, and it’s probably a bit heavy to use on current iPhones.)

The HTML5 spec blurs the distinction between HTML and JavaScript by defining the DOM interface for the HTML elements it specifies, and defining new DOM features (e.g. offline caching) that aren’t technically part of HTML. Apple (and other people) have further blurred the term “HTML5” by using it to encompass various CSS features like animations and transforms, which you’ll probably find very useful for making web apps feel more like native apps.

What can one create during the New Year and Christmas holidays? As it turned down – quite enough. Even if you have two kids and a bunch of family members whom you want to visit. The only thing you cannot accomplish in time is to finish an article for Dzone. It takes a lot of time, nearly the entire January.

By the 5th of January I had a laptop and a couple of days to spend on some development. Having estimated what I can do here, I decided to create a mobile app that would work faster than the original. For this, I needed to find communicative creators of a popular app.

Hence, I found a “ Spender  ” app in the App Store. It is a simple app for tracking your budget. With it, you can estimate how effectively you spend your money in the end of each month. By the 5th of January, this app was in Top-10 in the Russian App Store. I also found their  dev-story  on iphones.ru.

In their dev-story, the developers wrote that after completing their previous project, they had three-four free days. So, they decided to create a new app during this free time. Their Product Manager and programmers helped them with positioning the app and its key features.

This encouraged me and I began to think how to create nearly the same app in 2 days.

Note: the original app was updated in the middle of January, and now it looks a little different from my app. Anyway, you can find its screenshots in the dev-story.

I already had the experience of mobile app development using C# and Cocoa. Since this was my personal free time, I wanted to use it with maximum effectiveness. Even If I didn’t succeed, I was eager to learn a new framework or programming language.

I was working for DevExpress from 2006 till2011 and have been reading their announces since I left the company. So, I knew that they created a  mobile js-framework  based on Cordova/PhoneGap. They made it after I left the company, so I was curious to try it.

The Gartner research company  reports that by August, 2013 most of the enterprise mobile software was created using PhoneGap or PhoneGap-based products (like  Kony ). From my consumer experience, it’s far from true. Maybe I was wrong?

I’m not so good at HTML and JavaScript. I can create mark-up with stackoverflow.com and I can write simple selectors with jQuery. I can also find the required information in their documentation. In other words, HTML+JS was a gap in my knowledge and I was ready to fill it or gain some experience.

Thus, I planned to create a cross-platform application that could become an advantage over the original iOS-only Spender app. Moreover, I wanted to spend my time in the most effective way. On the one hand, I had a potentially effective JS framework, on the other – a lack of JS experience. I hoped that the JS framework advantages could balance my poor experience.

Since I like to use a VCS during development, I’ll try to recover my progress.

You can download complete apps here:

iOS  ,  Android

I’m not sure I can provide public access to my repo, because it contains images I bought from Fotolia and third-party libraries, each with a difference license. I’m not a lawyer, so I’d prefer not to take the risk. The most curious of you can take a look into the app bundle itself. JS wasn’t minified.

Place: Tula, Russia, Date: January, 5, 2014

+20 minutes Spent on installing Node.JS and Cordova CLI
+10 minutes Downloaded a template app from Cordova. Added a template from PhoneJS. Created a Git-repo, registered it in WebStorm. Added a new record to the httpd.conf in order to have an ability to debug my future app in the browser.
+38 minutes Changed the app namespace to "io.nikitin.ThriftBox". Added navigation. PhoneJS is an MVC-framework. Each app screen is represented as a collection of HTML markup (Views) and fabric function (ViewModel). Here is how it looks at its simplest

<div data-options="dxView : name: 'home', title: 'Home' "> <div data-options="dxContent : targetPlaceholder: 'content' "> // View Content </div>
</div>

and

ThriftBox.home = function (params) { // Request parameters taken from uri return {}; // ViewModel instance
};

Then View and View Model are bound via  knockout-bindings . To be in time, I create only two screens: expense input and monthly expense report.

+4 hours 20 minutes Here I got stuck for the first time. I couldn’t create a markup of digit buttons.
The original app had a huge keyboard that looked like a calculator or dialer.

I found out that it was not that easy to create such a keyboard, even using a table tag. In the iPhone Retina screen, 1px borders between buttons changed their colors after clicking on the buttons. On my iPhone, the difference in colors was very noticeable. I had to invent how to tackle this.

I tried to implement buttons using divs. But I couldn’t achieve a border width of 1 px and make all buttons look equal in different screens. Three hours later I gave up the idea of using divs and moved forward.

+28 minutes Removing a clicked button indicator on iOS. iOS displays a gray indicator around tapped links and objects with the onclick event handler. Since I had my own indicator of a tapped object (the tapped button became darker), I didn’t need the default indicator. I solved this problem using the  dxAction  event:

was:

<td data-bind="click: function() buttonPress('1') ">1</td>

became:

<td data-bind="dxAction: function() buttonPress('1') ">1</td>

This event is an extended variation of a "click" event: its handler supports URI navigation between Views and correctly works in the scrollable area.

+14 minutes The buttonPress event handler shown in the previous example now validates numbers from user input.

 var number = ko.observable(null); var isValidNumber = ko.computed(function() return number() && parseFloat(number()) > 0; ); ...... function buttonPress(button) if (button) if (number()) number(number() + button); else number(button); else if (number()) number(number().substr(0, number().length - 1)); var viewModel = number: number, isValidNumber: isValidNumber, viewShowing: viewShowing, buttonPress: buttonPress ; .....

+8 minutes Added a  FastClick.js , which removes a delay between tapping the screen and raising the ‘click’ event on phones. The mobile browser delays the raising of the click event by default to be sure the end-user will not perform a double tap. For the end-user, this looks as if the app is sluggish. You click buttons much faster than an app responds. FastClick.js handles the touchstart event and then creates all the click event process logic.

BTW, adding this library was a mistake; later I’ll tell why.

+4 minutes Added a limitation to the length of user input numbers. Corrected the font size for a better look-and-feel.

+58 minutes Added a choice of an expense category. Added a scrollable pane with available categories below the input field.  Video .

It took less time than it could be. In the PhoneJS component collection, I found dxTileView . It provides a kinetic scrolling with the required appearance out-of-the-box. It’s not easy to implement kinetic scrolling by yourself and thus it’s great that this scrolling is enabled for iOS only – Android doesn’t have it.

<div class="category" data-bind="dxTileView: dataSource: categories, itemMargin: 0, baseItemHeight: 72, baseItemWidth: 72, listHeight: 72 "> <div class="tile" data-options="dxTemplate: name:'item' " data-bind="css: selected: $parent.category() == $data , click: function() $parent.category($data) "> <div><img data-bind="attr: src: image "/></div> <div data-bind="text: name"></div> </div>
</div>

It was 7:40 pm, so, I decided to continue the next day.

Place: Tula, Russia, Date: January, 5, 2014

+3 hours 9 minutes Storing data on a local storage. PhoneJS contains classes for working with data: selection, filtering, sorting, and grouping. There are several approaches to store data: Odata and LocalStorage. I didn’t want to implement a server side for a free app, and decided to use LocalStorage. Later I found out that this was not an ideal decision. For example, when updating to iOS 5.1  user data is erased , other people complained that LocalStorage is cleared regularly or even when shutting the device down. I didn’t want to risk, so I used File API of PhoneGap.

Documentation  says that this API is based on W3C File API. In fact, this means that this API differs in Safari for Mac OS, Chrome for Mac OS, Cordova for iOS and Cordova for Android. File API implementation is different for iOS and Android. E.g. Android implementation doesn’t contain the ‘Blob’ class and ‘window.PERMANENT’ constant. iI however implements the ‘LocalFileSystem’ and ‘LocalFileSystem.PERSISTENT’ classes. The laptop browser provides additional API for requesting an additional storage space, which mobile browsers don’t provide.

The available documentation for this API adds more problems. I found several articles searching by "html5 file api". And, I couldn’t find an article that would cover all my questions. Finally I created a new class for working with FileAPI. This class supports Cordova 3.3 on iOS, Android, and Chrome 32 for Mac OS and Windows 8. You can find it here:  https://github.com/chebum/fileStorage-for-Phone.JS/blob/master/fileStorage.js

You can use it as follows:

// In this example I create data/records file in the Documents folder of the app
FS.initFileAPI(1000000, true) .then(function () var records = new FS.FileArrayStore( key: "id", fileName: "records" ); return records.insert( customer: "Peter" ) ) .then(function () alert("Record saved!"); );
// Or use low-level API:
FS.initFileAPI(100000, true) .then(function() return FS.writeFile("file1", "file content") ) .then(function() alert("File Saved!"); );

+33 minutes Saving the added records to the storage. Category list is stored in  ArrayStore , to simplify the selection operations.
+26 minutes Creating layout for the app’s Views. PhoneJS provides several  Layouts  that are the placeholders for the views. My app’s start page didn’t fit into any of the available layout, so I have chosen the EmptyLayout. But, it doesn’t provide animation effects when navigating through views. I copied the EmptyLayout code and added an attribute that had animation effects.
+1 h. 51 min. Template’s About screen was redesigned to a report screen, empty by that moment. Created a viewModel that selects data for a current month. Added localization date formatting for the screen caption.
+59 minutes Added the display of expenses grouped by categories for a current month.
+28 minutes Added the selection of months for which the report should be generated. End-users can tap the screen header to select the required month.
+1 h. 20 min. Added Cordova-plugin Statusbar that didn’t work outof-the-box. I found that the reference to cordova.js was commented in the PhoneJS app template:

<!--<script type="text/javascript" src="cordova.js"></script>-->

As a result, the native part of my app didn’t work.

+39 minutes In the report screen, the upper part was changed to  dxToolbar .
+22 minutes I discoveredwhy the dxButton click event handler didn’t work. Removing the FastClick.js solved my problem, but caused a delay between tapping and event raising. I’ve changed the dxAction event subscription to ‘touchstart’.
+25 minutes Formatting output strings when generating a report.

At night I dreamed of crappy buttons in the application’s main screen.

Places: Tula, Vnukovo Airport, Date: January, 7-8, 2014

I had an early flight to Budapest from Vnukovo, and because I had no time in the afternoon, I gradually completed at the airport at night. As you know, it’s not very comfortable to sleep or sit in a café chair for a long time, but it turned out that programming was OK.
+2 h. 5 min. In the morning, I decided to split the buttons in order to remove borders between them. I took the iOS dialer keyboard as a sample.

I created three keyboards. The button size changes depending on screen resolution: for 3.5”, 4” and 5” phones. Each table cell contained a div with configured alignment.

Because of the lack of an incomplete vertical text alignment in HTML, the final CSS style for buttons ended to be quite complex:

.home-view .buttons td div color: #4a5360; border: 1px solid #4a5360; text-align: center; position: absolute; left: 50%; font-size: 26px; padding: 13px 0 13px 0; width: 52px; line-height: 26px; border-radius: 26px; margin-left: -27px; margin-top: -27px;

+1 h. 50 minutes I bought several vector icon sets on Fotolia. I cut the required icons and converted them to PNG. It took me quite a long time, maybe, because it was 1.30 am 🙂

+1 hour 10 minutes Added a splash-screen for the app.

+36 minutes Created three sizes for the app icon. Localized the app name for iOS.

+20 minutes Hiding the splash screen after the app is completely loaded.

+2 hours Fixing multiple bugs.

+2 hours Creating screenshots for Play Store

+30 minutes Creating screenshots for App Store

+30 minutes Writing an App description for two app stores.

+1 h. 30 minutes Submitting my app to the App Store. Here I faced with an issue with the app certification.

My accountancy

Let’s summarize the time I spent and divide it into categories.

Development: 21 hours 37 minutes

Graphics and texts: 8 hours 26 minutes

Totally: 30 hours 3 minutes

As a result, I got a minimum-feature working app, though it is not as cool as the latest version of "Spender". I couldn’t create splitting expenses by days and income input. My app’s UI could be more elegant as well.

After analyzing the original ‘Spender’ developer work, I got the following. They say that they involved four developers for three-four days. It is about 96-128 man-hours. I spent only 30 man-hours and got an app for three mobile platforms. iOS and Android versions are already in stores. The version for Windows Phone 8 requires a UI redesign.

I can be proud of myself :).

Movie Info

THE HISTORY OF FUTURE FOLK tells the hilarious (and possibly exaggerated) origin story of the real life alien bluegrass band, Future Folk, that has been charming NYC audiences with their live act for the better part of a decade. When a comet threatens to destroy their planet, the citizens of Hondo enlist their most decorated soldier, General Trius (Nils d’Aulaire), to search for a new home planet- and wipe out the current inhabitants with a flesh-eating virus. After landing somewhere near Brooklyn, General Trius wanders into a megastore to unleash the terror… when he’s suddenly enchanted by a strange and mystical human invention known as “music.” They don’t have music on Hondo, and since it’s the best thing he’s ever heard, General Trius immediately abandons his mission to eradicate the human race, assumes the name Bill, starts a family, and launches a one-alien bluegrass act in a tiny bar owned by Larry (Dee Snider). Years later, his peaceful life is disrupted when the Hondonians send a bumbling assassin named Kevin (Jay Klaitz) to get the mission back on track. Although subduing Kevin is no challenge for the great General Trius, the Hondonians have no intention of calling off their plan to eliminate mankind, so Bill and Kevin must join forces to save Hondo, prevent an intergalactic takeover of Earth, and hopefully get some bigger gigs for the universe’s first Hondonian bluegrass duo: Future Folk! A delightful sci-fi adventure that simultaneously strips the genre down to its low-tech basics and infuses it with audacious new verve.

It is so charming and sweet … and the songs are so winning that it is impossible not to fall for it.

The nonsense proves good, goofy fun that works well because “History” at least acts as if it takes itself seriously, going easy on obvious ironies while dishing out catchy tunes.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a better example of unadulterated escapism in which the craftsmanship lies not in visual polish but the universal appeal of a catchy tune.

The movie could have made its points – war is bad; music is the universal language – in half the time. But the harmonies are sweet, the acoustic picking impressive.

It’s a fast, cheerful and most of all resolutely cute movie, that absolutely does not demand or expect brooding or deep thought.

What I found was something better: a gentle and smart film that mines great jokes from the alienation of being a genuine alien, and which tackles relationships and family issues just as easily as it crafts catchy songs.

The result is a film that earns every inch of its charm. There’s no way these real life band members’ love of music, family and mankind could be faked.

It’s sweet and cuddly and modest, completley sincere and lacking the irony you’d expect from two guys playing bluegrass instruments while wearing buckets on their heads.

While containing a much higher and polished production value than I admittedly expected, the real success lies in real life bandmates [Nils] d’Aulaire and [Jay] Klaitz’s performances.

Audience Reviews for The History Of Future Folk

Can you imagine a film that incorporates elements of drama, romance, comedy, sci-fi plus lots of catchy songs… and that at the end almost everyone likes it!? It is hard to imagine, but this movie is one of the kind, and it manages to be adorable with all of the above in it! Director John Mitchell’s debut has it all – aliens bent on world destruction, boy-meets girl/boy-gets-girl, action adventure, and a soundtrack which will follow you for days even if you are not a fan of that kind of music. Unique and charming, this piece of real film art will have you humming and repeating the word “Hondo” long after you’ve finish watching it.

This film is actually setting the background story of the futuristic folk duo Future Folk, who have been performing to packed crowds in and around New York and Brooklyn for several years. Using their alien personas and building a thrilling backstory around them, the film manages to please the crowd and bewitch us all at the same time while we together follow the hilarious adventure that lives up to its tag-line: Probably the only alien-folk-duo sci-fi-action-romance-comedy ever made!

I have to say that Jeremy Kipp Walker is the real star of this project together with the main protagonists. His recent producing credits include “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” starring Zach Galifianakis; “Half Nelson”, for which Ryan Gosling received a 2007 Best Actor Academy Award nomination; “Cold Souls” starring Paul Giamatti; baseball odyssey “Sugar”; Moroccan-based thriller “The Passage” and the deep space thriller “Europa Report”. Impressive, but none of them reached the smoothness and satisfaction like his directing debut – this one The History of Future Folk. He previously co-directed the award winning short films “Super Powers” (Best Narrative Short Film Award – 2007 Tribeca Film Festival) and “Goodnight Bill” (Jury Award for Best Short Film – 2005 Austin Film Festival; Audience Award for Best Live Action Film – 2005 Palm Springs International Short Film Festival; Jury Award for Best Short Film – 2005 New Orleans Film Festival and a Best of Fest Screenplay Award – 2005 Rhode Island Film Festival). I am looking forward for the next film!

If you are in a mood for a gentle and infectiously joyful family-friendly comedy about aliens who call off an invasion of Earth because they’re charmed by earthlings’ music, chose this one. You should be feeling invigorated after watching it. In fact, if that does not happen, please watch it again. You definitely did something wrong the first time.

This is proof, again, that you don’t need a gigantic budget to make a really good movie. Hell, part of the film’s charm is the film’s lo-fi look and feel. The film benefits from a damn good script with a lot of heart and charm and some incredible original songs, that’s all this film needed to be good. It doesn’t matter that it looks like it was shot for less than $10,000, the quality of the script, the cast, and the songs overcome all the obstacles. Perhaps my biggest complaint about the movie is that there weren’t ENOUGH original songs. That’s how good the songs are, that you’re disappointed that there aren’t more of them. The story isn’t really there to make you think about complex issues as much as it is there to put a smile on your face. And it definitely put a smile on my face as I had a lot of fun watching this film with its charming presentation. The film is also really funny, but I don’t think it ever loses sight of its story, and I liked the fact that its massage wasn’t as heavy-handed as it could’ve been. They don’t beat you over the head with the fact that war is bad, and stupid, and music is the universal language, it is there, but it isn’t unbearable. This is a very good movie and it’s definitely a lot of fun to watch even if the story is a little all over the place at times, that’s definitely why the film defies classification. It’s a sci-fi/comedy/romance/musical/slight social commentary/action film. It’s definitely an unique experience, but it’s a really good one at that.

    If you’re anything like me, you’re probably also thinking – Ah! Let me get the papers first, then I will definitely do one paper per week in a full sitting! Hate to break it to you, but it never ends up happening that way. There’s always that roommate who barges in to get food, or guests decide to show up unannounced or nature calls.

    So unless you have an actual clock ticking which you can’t change at will, you would most likely be sidetracked. Hence, you are generally better off attempting the papers in a timed setting where you can’t hack the clock and the pressure is really on. You can download pdfs if that’s your style or attempt the UPSC Question Papers 2014 – 2017 online on Exambazaar for free.

    PS: It’s also an excellent excuse for avoid unannounced guests. 🙂

      College Football Playoff Selection Show 2016: Date, Start Time, Live-Stream Info

      At the conclusion of college football’s championship weekend, the four participants in this season’s College Football Playoff will be decided and officially announced as part of the CFP Selection Show Sunday.

      While schools like Alabama and Ohio State appear to be virtual locks, the other spots are less certain, and some of the conference championship game results will go a long way toward determining who will play for a national title.

      The CFP rankings have been the subject of great debate for much of the season, but here is everything you need to know about when and where to watch the determination of college football’s four best teams.

      Date: Sunday, Dec. 4

      Start Time: 12 p.m. ET

      TV: ESPN

      Live Stream:  WatchESPN

      Breaking Down Top Title Contenders

      Alabama

      The Alabama Crimson Tide have been the No. 1 team in the nation for essentially the entire 2016 season, and that won’t change entering the College Football Playoff.

      ‘Bama are a complete team, but the two biggest factors in whether they repeat as national champion are the defense and the play of freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts.

      The Tide defense has long been dominant under head coach Nick Saban , and that hasn’t changed in 2016. As seen in this tweet courtesy of SEC Network’s Cole Cubelic, Alabama ranks first in many of the most important defensive categories:

      Cole Cubelic @ colecubelic

      The Alabama defense leads the nation in: https://t.co/58liivTJnW

      Alabama still needs to put points on the board despite its remarkable defense, and Hurts has been the driving force behind that.

      According to Alabama Football , Hurts is having one of the best-ever seasons by an Alabama quarterback, as he is second only to Blake Sims in total offense and touchdowns responsible for with games still left to be played.

      The Crimson Tide don’t have a stud running back like they usually do, but Hurts has picked up the slack with his legs. Also, he has a remarkable bevy of weapons in the passing game, including ArDarius Stewart, Calvin Ridley and O.J. Howard.

      Alabama may not be unbeatable, but it is the unquestioned favorite entering the CFP due to the fact that it has no glaring weaknesses.

      Ohio State

      The Ohio State Buckeyes pose an interesting dilemma for the CFP committee in that they are a one-loss team with a great resume, but they don’t even have the opportunity to play for the Big Ten title due to their loss to Penn State.

      Despite that, keeping OSU out of the CFP is a tough sell due to the fact that it owns road wins over Oklahoma and Wisconsin, as well as home victories against Nebraska and Michigan.

      Although the Buckeyes are 11-1 and played in college football’s best conference, they had their struggles, such as a four-point win over Northwestern and one-point victory against Michigan State.

      The triumph over Michigan was far from easy as well, and it can be argued they were lucky to come out on top due to how close quarterback J.T. Barrett’s fourth-down conversion was in double overtime.

      Because of Ohio State’s quality of schedule, however, it seems nearly impossible for it to be held out of the College Football Playoff.

      If it does make the CFP, it will need to raise its level of play, and that starts with Barrett. While the junior signal-caller has run the ball effectively, his passing is somewhat pedestrian, as evidenced by his career-low completion percentage of 61.9 percent.

      Barrett couldn’t get anything going through the air against Michigan, and ESPN’s Damien Woody was far from impressed:

      Damien Woody @ damienwoody

      JT Barrett is terrible as a passer I'm sorry #UMvsOSU

      The Buckeyes’ go-to play down the stretch in that game was to keep the ball in Barrett’s hands, though, and he got the job done when it counted.

      Ohio State is undoubtedly a flawed team, but head coach Urban Meyer is one of the best in the business, and his track record at OSU speaks for itself, per SportsCenter:

      SportsCenter @ SportsCenter

      5 years ago today, Urban Meyer accepted the head coach job at Ohio St.
      His achievements:
      • 1 National Title
      • 61-5 record
      • 5-0 vs Michigan https://t.co/Iq2JpgJ3OX

      Few expected the Buckeyes to win the national title two seasons ago, but they shocked both Alabama and Oregon as an underdog to take the trophy.

      The Buckeyes aren’t exactly flying under the radar, but the combination of Meyer and Barrett may be all it needs to go on another title run.

      Clemson

      The Clemson Tigers gained some valuable experience by reaching the national championship game last season, and they undoubtedly have enough talent to do so again this time around.

      Aside from a surprising 43-42 loss to Pittsburgh, Clemson is playing its best football right now, particularly on offense.

      The Tigers dominated South Carolina in a rivalry game last week, and the 56-7 score set a record for games between ACC and SEC teams, according to TigerNet.com:

      TigerNet.com @ ClemsonTigerNet

      Clemson's 49-point margin of victory over USC is the largest ever by an ACC school over a SEC school. Previous record? 63-17 game in 2003

      Clemson goes as quarterback Deshaun Watson does, and the Heisman Trophy candidate has been on fire over the past month.

      Watson has thrown for 3,626 yards and 34 touchdowns this season, and he was especially dominant in November, per Clemson Sports Information Director Tim Bourret:

      Tim Bourret @ TimBourret

      Deshaun Watson completed 114 of 151 passes for 1298 yards and 12 TDs in Nov. His .755 comp % was best in nation for month, min 100 att.

      In addition to that, Watson has an impressive arsenal of weapons at his disposal that includes running back Wayne Gallman, wide receivers Mike Williams, Deon Cain and Artavis Scott, and tight end Jordan Leggett.

      It can be argued that there is no more talented offense in the nation, and that fact alone makes the Tigers a huge threat to return to the CFP title game and finish the job they fell just short of accomplishing last season.
